The Hague, the seat of the Dutch Government and a royal residence, is also called the City of Peace and Justice. IATM Netherlands thought that this beautiful historic city would be the perfect backdrop for our first meeting in 2024.
The Hague is easily reached from Schiphol Airport by train to Den Haag Centraal (Station) in 30 minutes. You can walk to the hotel from Central Station in 15 minutes or take a taxi.
IATM Netherlands has a strong focus on the environment and therefore we have chosen a delightful first-class hotel for you in the very heart of the city, voco The Hague. This means that most places of interest are reachable on foot and others by the excellent streetcars.
Saturday 27 January - In the afternoon, we are present in the hotel lobby to welcome you to The Hague. This evening, enjoy a welcome drink and delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant: Botanica Kitchen.
Sunday 28 January - After a hearty breakfast, we start exploring this fascinating city. Our local guides will show us historical landmarks, like the Binnenhof, the seat of the Dutch Government, charming alleyways, and grand shopping arcades, palaces on a Dutch scale (read: small). We shall visit the world famous Mauritshuis Museum and see ‘The Girl with the Pearl Earring’ by Johannes Vermeer, several works by Rembrandt van Rijn and Peter Paul Rubens.
Another highlight this morning, is the visit to Panorama Mesdag, a panoramic painting by Hendrik Willem Mesdag. From an observation gallery in the centre of the room the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches, and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century.
After lunch (on your own) you can visit the Kunstmuseum, an art museum, founded in 1866 with a collection of 165.000 works. It is famous for its large collection of works by Mondrian. The current museum building was constructed between 1931 and 1935, designed by the Dutch architect H.P. Berlage.
If graphic art is your thing, we recommend Escher in Het Paleis (Escher in The Palace) a museum featuring the works of the Dutch graphical artist M.C. Escher. It is housed in the Lange Voorhout Palace since November 2002. This evening is free for Regional get-togethers.
Monday 29 January - After breakfast we board our coach for a panoramic drive through The Hague. We make a stop by the Peace Palace – the seat of the International court of Justice and the permanent Court of Arbitration. We continue to Scheveningen with its fishing port and miles of sandy beaches. We will drive to the town of Delft where we will visit Royal Delft, which has been producing the famous blue and white earthenware for over 360 years. This is also the location for our AGM.
After our meeting our hosts are serving coffee and apple cake and there will be time for a visit to their fascinating museum. After some time for shopping in their factory shop, we walk to the historical part of the city. Time for lunch on your own on the Market Square. After lunch a local expert will show you this charming city with a real Dutch feel to it. Take streetcar number one back to our hotel – we have tickets for you!
This evening, we again use our streetcar tickets to reach the restaurant for our farewell dinner with good food and unlimited wine, beer, or soft drinks.
Tuesday 30 January - The first part of our event ends today after breakfast, or you continue the IATM POST TOUR.
